December 2016

You know that moment halfway through a gig, when a wild song’s building to a crescendo? When your ears begin to bleed and you’re so grateful when the band tone it down just to give you a breather? That was the kind of vibe we were after with this issue. Last month we had the racy Speedblocks issue, so we though we’d tone this one down a tad. That was the plan... But like any good jam session of magazine creation, things got a little out of hand – not quite as full-on as last month’s issue, but we’ve still got trick Triumphs built by that doyen of Meriden’s racing past Les Williams; 87-year-old Ernie Allen reunited with his old Black Lightning Watsonian outfit; a lovingly restored Drixton Honda replica and Colin Hill’s rather splendid Mabsa Pre-65 ’crosser.

Giving us some balance - we’ve also got a delightful Guzzi Lodola with pastimes patina, and the life of bikes with Terry’ Dobney – but that old metal guitar solo crept in again with a tricked out Laverda 1200 special. Rock on!

Inside this issue...

Les Williams' reworked Triumphs are highley sought after by those in the know. We ride three of them to find out why...

Eccentric? Probably. Steeped in bikes? Certainly. Terry Dobney's life has been a wild ride. So sit back and enjoy...

Discovered beneath a rotting tarpaulin, this unrestored Moto Guzzi Lodola 235 has become the perfect back-lane knockabout.
